On this episode of Dallas Dirt, guest host April Towery talks about the commissioners who helped draft the controversial Forward Dallas, a comprehensive land use plan that appears to pit residents against the city. I spoke with one of the members of the group. Opponents have accused city officials of intentionality, but guest Nathaniel Barrett made recommendations that appeared to have upset active homeowners in wealthy Preston Hollow and nearby single-family neighborhoods. pointed out that it is the Comprehensive Land Use Planning Committee.
“The first draft showed areas that were clearly single-family only type areas and where other types of housing could be allowed, such as duplexes or small apartments,” Barrett said. “And at the direction of the commission, we told staff that we did not want to distinguish between these two types of residential areas.”
“The city faces challenges together, and while no region can withstand all the changes, no region is exempt from them,” Barrett said.
