Ted Kourfan looks back at the Red Wings after the trade deadline, and former Red Wing Ted Nolan appears as a special guest.
Detroit made one minor league contract before Friday afternoon's deadline. They sent forward Klim Kostin to the Sharks in exchange for defenseman Radim Simek and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.
On Friday night, the Wings lost 4-0 in Arizona in what Kulfan called “one of the poorest periods in hockey history.” They are tied for the final wild-card spot, two points ahead of Tampa Bay and the Islanders.
“It's amazing how things can change in an instant,” Kurfan said on the podcast. “The Wings were comfortable in their position and looked like they were leading by a few points.
“All of a sudden, we're nowhere near as safe as we were a few weeks ago. That's what happens when you lose four straight while the Islanders and some teams are doing well.”
On February 27, the Red Wings defeated the Capitals 8-3, giving them a season-high 13 games over .500 with a 33-20-6 record.
After Friday's loss to the Coyotes, the team now has a four-game losing streak heading into Saturday's game in Las Vegas, with the team now at 33-24-6.
In a four-game losing streak, the Wings have lost 20-5 to the Islanders, Panthers, Avalanche and Coyotes, and four Detroit players are minus-5 in four games.
▶ Minus 5: Moritz Seider, Jake Wollman, Lucas Raymond, Jeff Petry (3 games in a row – including 2 games)
▶ Minus 4: Forwards Ben Chiarot, Alex DeBrincat, Michael Rasmussen and JT Compher average a team-high 20:57.
▶ Minus-3: Patrick Kane, Shayne Gostisbehere
