What have you been up to lately?
It's been a pretty busy 6 months as I've been traveling, starting my own label, and working on releases. Finally, things are returning to normal daily life. Make coffee in the morning, go to the studio, take a walk. Replenish your energy and inspiration.
Where and how was the mix recorded? And can you tell us the idea behind it?
This mix was recorded at one of my favorite clubs in Seoul. modesi, using a Pioneer DJM900 mixer and two 2000NXS2 CDJs. It's mostly about what I do when I'm DJing in a club these days. Most people may not know this, but absorbing the sun's rays and listening to music on a modechi during the day feels very good.
What club or party had a big influence on you as an artist?
It was a party at Modeci. Last year, I covered all night, DJed, and performed live for 7 hours. Usually when you DJ or perform live, you can only show a limited amount. So it was a unique experience to reveal different aspects of my musical self to the audience.
You're incredibly versatile as a producer, exploring everything from boogie to rave to ambient in your releases. Interested in developing a specific sound?
I feel like I'm in the process of finding myself in music, but it's not genre-oriented. However, there is a certain aesthetic that runs through my work, a set of elements that inspire and move me. So I'm always trying to develop them into my own sound.
How has the landscape of electronic music in Seoul changed since the pandemic?
I feel like it has spread quite a bit since the pandemic. Now there are more clubs, DJs and producers. Plus, we're seeing more new labels, which the scene really needed. There are a lot of great producers in Seoul, but introducing them to the scene wasn't easy. At labels like Walls and Pals, which Jesse Yu and I run, people started launching new labels both during and after the pandemic. It's really nice to see people starting labels and making creative moves.
What social or political cause would you like the world to pay more attention to?
Climate change goes beyond simple changes in the weather; it has complex and diverse impacts on society and the environment. However, people often consume more energy and produce more waste without realizing how these phenomena affect our lives. I would like you to think about how our attitude towards the environment around us reflects back on us.
What are you looking forward to in the near future?
I just started working on some collaborations this year, which is different from the electronic music I was making. So I'm really excited about these projects. Additionally, I will be releasing a split EP with Jesse You on Walls And Pals. Also, this has nothing to do with work, but it's getting warmer in Seoul, so I'm really looking forward to my morning walk.
