- Old school techno with a touch of flair from one of America's newest acolytes.
- At the beginning of this year we explained Los Angeles is one of the funkiest young producers in modern techno with 1Morning. And we support it. The fast-growing upstart has built a strong fan base primarily in North America with their rugged vintage style of swinging techno and hard grooves.his All vinyl DJ set and pump production fixed rhythm or Mara Ad There's a distinctly old-school feel to it, with hi-hats in the vein of Robert Hood, quick chops behind the decks, and deep, deep grooves. Like many vinyl heroes, he also clock behind the deck. The up-and-coming player has had a hell of a year in 2023, from playing in Japan to playing on his first European tour, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He debuted this year at New York's Dweller Festival, and his duo with Bloodhound, K9 Unit, recently performed with fellow hard groove kings Regal 86. It's only a matter of time before 1Morning arrives at a festival or club near you. Until then, enjoy his live shows. R.A. Podcast for now. Unfortunately, the records that 1Morning retrieved had some of the following situations: stolen from his carso instead this R.A. The podcast became an expression of resilience and creativity, and, in his words, “an outlet for my anger.”
What have you been up to lately?
To be honest, I've been practicing putting more space between the music. You can have more fun creating because you're not always trying to create the next hit. I'm preparing some more vinyl, and maybe I'll self-release it again. He will play in New York during June and in Berlin from July to August.
Where and how was the mix recorded? And can you tell us the idea behind it?
I had to rethink everything after my record collection, which I was taking on tour, was stolen from my car right before the deadline. Gone are all the songs that I loved and collected from different parts of the world and that aligned with the funk that my music encapsulated. I think the idea for this mix was to test the limits of my creativity after losing about 100 records that I was used to listening to. I'm still very frustrated so I used this as an outlet for my anger. From start to finish, these tracks have different energies that I think reflect how I've been feeling. It's also very raw with a few skips through the record and a few saves afterwards. We recorded it at NoNonsense Records, a shop my friend owns in downtown LA.
What club or party had a big influence on you as an artist?
Neurotek's free party in Los Angeles was probably the biggest one for me as it was actually where I met my core group of friends in the music world, who I draw a lot of my musical inspiration from. It made an impact.
What social or political cause would you like the world to pay more attention to?
I wish people would pay more attention to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and understand that this conflict is not as complicated as traditional media portrays it. I hope that the United States and other Western countries will wake up to this and put an end to the destruction of the Palestinian people.
What are you looking forward to in the near future?
I look forward to the inevitable change in sound that dominates our current landscape. I feel like a lot of producers and DJs in general are trying to fit into this Berlin aesthetic. Because they're consuming the same repackaged sounds and aesthetics that are enhanced by the popular clubs they like to play. I think a lot of people are getting tired of the status quo, so I'm looking forward to that because I think there will be a change soon. I've already seen more people discovering and being influenced by the sounds of the 90s and early 00s, and I think that's great as long as it's authentic.
