SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – As Southcrest flood victims continue to clean up after the storm, real estate agents are now coming to the neighborhood offering to buy homes for less than their actual value. That's what it means.
Beta Street homeowner Greg Montoya said his phone has been ringing off the hook.
“They keep calling. One guy kept calling me. I had to block his number,” Montoya said.
The same thing happened to his neighbors, but some real estate agents don't call and instead go door to door.
Sergio Hernandez, who lives next door to Montoya, said his wife received a business card from a real estate agent and received an offer.
Another neighbor, Jerry Hernandez, said a real estate agent approached him as well. Hernandez, who is renting his home, told ABC 10News he told the real estate agent to leave the neighborhood because he found the offer insulting.
Neighbors feel their homes are worth much more, even with flood damage. They estimate the value of their home at $600,000 to $700,000. In addition to the low-budget offer, neighbors told ABC 10News that no one wanted to sell anyway.
“I said to them, what are you guys doing here? Don't you understand what we just went through? That's called respect,” Hernandez said.
ABC 10News attempted to call the real estate agent who left the information for the neighbor. A real estate agent did not respond. The other person told 10News he is involved in and helping the community and denied he had ever made any kind of offer.
Instead of accepting cash offers, neighbors say they are warning each other not to take advantage of them before the problem is over.
