The Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors and the San Diego Association of Realtors are reminding San Diego flood victims that they have one week left to apply for financial assistance for household expenses.
Tomorrow is the last day to apply for some of the $1.16 million in grant funding provided by the Realtors Relief Foundation to help flood victims.
According to two local real estate associations, more than 100 applications are due to be approved, but real estate groups are hoping to double that number before the deadline.
“SDAR is extremely pleased with the number of applications we have received so far for flood assistance,” said SDAR Chairman Spencer Lugash, “and we will continue to encourage anyone who knows someone affected by January’s storms to remember them about this opportunity for financial assistance.”
The grants are limited in amount awarded to each approved applicant to an amount equal to their monthly housing payment, capped at $2,900.
RRF is a nonprofit organization established after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to provide housing-related assistance to communities affected by disasters. The local Realtor association and SDAR became eligible to receive RRF grant funding following a disaster declaration by President Biden on Feb. 19.
Heavy rains on Jan. 21 and 22 caused flooding that affected about 2,400 homes, most of them in underserved areas with limited flood insurance coverage. According to county records, the flooding affected about 7,750 people, forced the evacuation of 1,225 homes and caused more than $30 million in damages.
Flood victims can find more information about the application process at www.psar.org/floodrelief and www.sdar.com
