qualification
To be considered for employment with the Dallas Police Department, applicants must:
1. Be a U.S. citizen.
2. 19 1/2 years old (60 hours from an accredited university – minimum 2.0 GPA) or 21-44 years old (45 hours from an accredited university – minimum 2.0 GPA)
3. Have a valid driver's license.
4. Must not commit a felony or a Class A misdemeanor.
5. Not have been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years.
6. The college credit requirement is waived if you have three years of active military service and honorable discharge as specified in DD-214 or a valid peace officer license.
7. Physical fitness
8. Visual acuity rating no worse than 20/100 in either eye and correctable to 20/20.
9. There are no pending traffic enforcement or court cases.
10. Have not been convicted of three or more dangerous traffic offenses within the past 24 months. (Does not include “adjudication postponement'' and “driving safety course.'')
Applicant processing procedure
1. Preliminary Interview – You will be asked about your driving history, criminal history, and illegal drug use. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding the application procedure or training period.
2. Applicant Interview Committee – You will undergo an oral interview before a committee of police officers and supervisors, during which you will be interviewed on a variety of police and non-police topics.
3. Polygraph test – determines the validity of answers given in previous questionnaires and interviews.
4. Background Check – We will look into your employment history, background, and opinions and statements from people you have cited as references. You will also need to complete a personal resume provided by the Department.
5. Psychological Testing – Includes a 3-hour written exam and an interview with a psychologist.
6. Medical Exam – Includes physical exam and urine test.

monthly test
Below is an overview of the testing options available. Interested applicants should contact the recruiter for information regarding their specific situation.
Applicants wishing to test from out of town should contact the recruiter before making travel arrangements.
The City of Dallas and the Dallas Police Department accept applications and conduct monthly inspections. In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, all applicants must have the necessary documentation to begin the testing process.
Applicants can complete “Phase I” testing over four to five days (Wednesday through Sunday).
If you want to complete the “Monthly Test” process, you need to do the following:
1. Complete the City of Dallas Online Civil Service Application
2. Print and save a copy of your completed application.
3. Mail or hand-deliver your sealed official university transcript to:

4. The completed civil service application form and submitted documents will be reviewed by a civil service representative.
5. After this review, you will be notified of the civil service exam date and time.
Important information:
Immediately after the civil service exam, you must bring all required documents (as specified on this site) to Jack Evans Head Office.
You must contact a recruiter before taking the civil service exam.
