Less than 24 hours after finding a defensive coordinator, the Cowboys lost another defensive coach.

Last month, the Packers, Rams and Falcons requested permission to interview Durd for their respective defensive coordinator vacancies. He also interviewed for the defensive coordinator position before the Cowboys hired Mike Zimmer on Thursday.
Durd, 44, spent the past three seasons with the Cowboys. He entered the world of NFL coaching after serving as Head of Football Development at NFL UK. He was part of the International Player Pathway program that brings international players to his NFL. He interned with the Cowboys in 2014 and 2015 before joining the Atlanta Falcons and working under former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
When Quinn left to become head coach of the Washington Commanders, he brought in former Cowboys assistant Joe Whitt Jr. as defensive coordinator. This made Mr. Durd the leading internal candidate to replace Mr. Quinn.
With the departure of Durd and Whitt Jr., the Cowboys will be looking to replace Zimmer on his defensive coaching staff.
