GoVols247's Wes Rucker (from Fort Rucker Studios) and Ben McKee (from his new home studio) were brought together by the magic of the Internets to help end Tennessee's post-regular season loss to Kentucky. , asked whether that meant anything heading into the postseason. It starts this week with the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
The University of Tennessee took on rival Kentucky at the Food City Center on Saturday after successfully overcoming the first three of a four-game gauntlet to end the regular season and winning the SEC title. An emotional Senior Day may have led to a sluggish start, but Kentucky took the lead midway through the first half and never relinquished it, threatening to tear the game apart several times before the Vols took the lead. We just put together some rallies to keep it interesting.
The Vols looked especially fired up and almost erased a nine-point deficit in the final 55 seconds, but the senior guard josiah jordan james Although the 3-pointer missed, Kentucky grabbed the rebound and made the free throws to win 85-81.
Even in the loss, Rick Barnes' veteran-laden roster took something from an almost frustrating performance against perhaps the most explosive offensive team in the nation. A loss is a loss, but the way Tennessee came close to fighting its way back into the game will be remembered heading into the postseason.
Tennessee, of course, will be the No. 1 seed in this week's SEC Tournament, giving the Vols a double-bye win before playing either Mississippi State or LSU on Friday at 1 p.m. ET. If Tennessee takes charge of that game, it will likely face Auburn or South Carolina in the Eastern semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m.
