A storm bringing large hail struck parts of Dallas County on Memorial Day, leading to warnings being issued in the Dallas area on Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Dallas County and parts of Collin and Rockwall counties.
Those warnings were lifted by about 5:45 p.m., but severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for parts of southeastern Dallas County, southwestern Kaufman County and northeastern Ellis County until 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to NWS Fort Worth.
The weather service issued additional severe thunderstorm warnings for various parts of North Texas Monday night.
Around 7 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Tarrant and Denton counties, including northern Dallas County.
Just after 7:30 p.m., the National Weather Service reported that storms capable of producing golf-ball-sized hail and wind gusts of up to 65 mph were observed near Arlington and were moving southeast at 20 mph. The weather service expanded the warning to parts of Johnson and Ellis counties.
The warning for eastern Tarrant County and northwest Dallas County was expected to be lifted after 8 p.m., according to NWS Fort Worth.
According to NWS Fort Worth, the temperature was 95 degrees at DFW International Airport around 4 p.m. Monday, just before the storm was reported in the Dallas area.
The storm comes after a weekend of deadly severe weather.
Seven people were killed and about 100 were injured when tornadoes struck North Texas on Saturday evening, state officials said.
