Satellite audio company SiriusXM will reduce its global workforce by about 3% to become “more efficient, agile and flexible,” CEO Jennifer Witts said in a memo to employees. .
Last year, the company announced a major revamp of its app and signed a number of talent to expand into podcasting.
“We have made great strides in transforming our business in 2023, but we are just beginning to scratch the surface of what is possible here at SiriusXM,” Witts wrote in the memo. “To continue on our path to future subscriber growth and maintain our success in an evolving competitive environment, it is imperative that we become even more efficient, agile and flexible. Today we announced several organizational changes, including the difficult decision to eliminate certain roles, to enable us to move faster and work together more effectively to achieve our long-term goals. We are doing so.”
SiriusXM last month announced a deal with SmartLess Media, the company whose namesake podcast ranks as one of the most popular in existence. Hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, SmartLess moved from Amazon to SirusXM in his three-year deal reportedly worth $100 million.
SiriusXM has long relied on vehicle-based revenue, but it wants to take deeper advantage of advertisers' increased spending on podcasts. SmartLess joins the growing roster of podcasts on SiriusXM.
