Rory McIlroy's comments on LIV Golf, Anthony Kim's return to the pros and Taylor Gooch's viral interview on the Majors all feature on the deluxe edition of the Sky Sports Golf Podcast.
Henny Koyak and Zane Scotland join regular host Josh Antman to cover the sport's biggest stories and preview another action-packed week on the golf calendar.
The committee criticized Mr. Gooch's lack of a key exemption provided to LIV golf players, stating that Masters winners will have an asterisk next to their name due to the absence of certain players. They are reacting to what they say will be needed.
McIlroy was asked to respond to Gooch's comments and rumors of joining LIV Golf ahead of the Cognizant Classic, and on the podcast he reflected on what the future of golf means for the four-time major champion.
“I think at some point, say five or 10 years from now, it's all going to come together,” Koyak told the Sky Sports Golf podcast. “Whether that's in the form of LIV, or whether the PGA Tour and PIF merger will create another tour with a different name and a different format, no one knows.
“If you're being pedantic, you're right. He [McIlroy] If he continues to play golf on the PGA Tour, at some point he will play on a PIF-created tour, alongside or in conjunction with a PIF-created tour. That is essentially what LIV is.
“When will that merger happen and what will it look like? Will it be a different tour with a different format? Will it be LIV? Will it be something else? We don't know. There are a lot of questions you don't have.
“I think Lowry has been in a tough position for a long time. Initially, he was put in the position of being the spokesperson for the PGA Tour and he ended up at war with PIF, LIV and Saudi Arabia.
“He took that stand because he believed he was fighting for this cause, and therefore made very strong comments, because essentially in this war, both sides are together. Then there was a merger, an armistice, and the two sides combined their different sides.
“This is my long-winded way of saying that one day he will do it, but you never know.” I have to do something.”
This podcast looks back at some of the highlights and lowlights from Thomas Detrie's nightmarish 5-putt from 6 feet during a weather-delayed finish at PGA National, plus Kim's performance at the LIV Golf Event in Saudi Arabia. We will also review his return to professional golf.
There's also a preview of the International Women's Day event at the Belfry and this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, with mixed reviews of how the PGA Tour's marquee events will play out this season.
