TEMPE, Ariz. (3TV/CBS 5) — Last year was a strange and frustrating campaign for the Sun Devil offense. Dealing with an unprecedented amount of injuries, especially along the offensive line and quarterback, yardage and points were hard to come by in Year 1 for Kenny Dillingham. In an effort to get things back on track, Dillingham brought on Marcus Arroyo as its new offensive coordinator.
After a fulfilling career as a quarterback at San Jose State University, Arroyo jumped into the coaching world and had a collegiate and NFL career. He gained the most attention as his OC at the University of Oregon, won the Rose Bowl, helped develop Justin his Herbert, and earned a head coaching job at UNLV. Arroyo faced significant challenges during the pandemic, taking over a program that has historically faced some of the most challenges in the country. However, the Rebels made tremendous progress in his three seasons, and the foundation he laid allowed UNLV to post one of its most successful seasons in history in 2023. Arroyo will be looking to engineer a similar turnaround with the Devils this year.
In this episode, Marcus and I talk about his coaching career, the lessons he learned along the way, why he took the ASU job, how he deals with quarterback battles, and how he fit into ASU's offense during his playing days. We will discuss what was done. .
