SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Discussion continues regarding plans to invest in the Springfield neighborhood. Southend was the talk of the town on Thursday night.
The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC) held a workshop at Southend Citizens Council, Inc. to help develop a Neighborhood Investment Plan that outlines top priorities for the next 10 years. They heard from residents, stakeholders and business owners. This comes after the coronavirus pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on nearby areas.
Among the ideas proposed were installing street lights, planting more trees, expanding the police presence and expanding market-rate housing. “This district is a safe and comfortable place for everyone to live, and we hope to continue to bring economic development to the neighborhood and provide a place for people to live with their families.” PVPC Land Use and Environment the manager said. There will be a Metro Center District meeting next Wednesday, April 24th from 6pm to 8pm at South Congregational Church.
