ST. Johns County, Florida – St. Johns County is moving forward with a $123 million investment in county parks. This funding will support five new regional parks and community centers.
Work on all five parks is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This includes building a park near Shearwater. Some people living in the area said the plan would benefit them. Currently, the closest place they can participate in basketball and other sports is nearly 10 miles away.
Below is the blueprint for Northeast Community Park. The park will include baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, and a community center for library use and election administration.
The construction cost of the Central Sports Complex will be approximately $42 million. There are five multipurpose fields, including a grass field. Central Community Park will also have indoor space for recreational programs, as well as a library, splash pad and playground.
At Tuesday's meeting, several people who live in the county expressed support for the plan.
Commissioners said this is a plan that began investing during the pandemic.
