Stars forward Loop Hintz left Game 4 against Colorado on Monday night late in the first period with what the team called an upper-body injury. he didn't come back.
The top-line forward blocked a shot by Avalanche defenseman Sean Walker with 1:09 left in the first period and ended his shift shortly after. He also appears to have been cross-checked during the same shift, but the cause of his injuries has not been disclosed.
“A lot of things happen late in the playoffs,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer said of the injury. “There will be some injury reports tomorrow, but I have nothing to tell you for now.”
Hintz was Dallas' leading scorer in the last playoffs and started this postseason on a drought, scoring four points in Game 2 of the Colorado series. He had 2 goals and 4 assists in this year's playoffs, earning 6 points.
The Finnish center finished second on the team with 30 goals this season and added 35 assists for 65 points on the year.
The Stars led 1-0 when Hintz was ejected, but quickly took a 2-0 lead on Wyatt Johnston's power-play goal and went on to win 5-1.
Defenseman Chris Tanev was also shaken up after being hit late in the game. Fourth-row forward Craig Smith missed early in the game but returned. DeBoer is expected to provide updates on all three injuries when the team returns to Dallas on Tuesday afternoon.
