The Dallas Cowboys concluded their rookie minicamp this weekend at The Star in Frisco, Texas, with a two-day session for 20 rookies and selected first-year players, including eight players in the team's 2024 draft class. finished.
Head coach Mike McCarthy had high praise for his rookies after the first day, and that carried over into the second day Saturday.
After minicamp, Cowboys Chief Operating Officer Stephen Jones spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the team's rookies, saying he was “impressed” with them, especially the mental aspect of the game.
“I think they're all mentally ready. Obviously they're not doing a lot here physically. Once they get back to playing real football. , I think it will be just as impressive,'' Jones said via the team's official website. “The biggest thing is they've definitely bought into this mental part. They're interacting with the coaches and bringing that to the field. I'm really impressed with this group.”
One rookie that has gotten everyone's attention is first-round pick Tyler Guyton, who is expected to start right away at left tackle. Two days after the Cowboys selected him out of Oklahoma, the offensive tackle moved to an Airbnb in Dallas and began training with offensive line guru Duke Manyweather.
Cowboys leaders noted Guyton's quickness and said it shows how seriously the 6-foot-8, 328-pounder is taking his first NFL season.
“That's what I'm saying, they're coming prepared. They're taking this opportunity seriously. Obviously, the players that were drafted, they were drafted for a reason. '' Jones said. “You can see that they take the game seriously when they complete all their homework. It's still early, but I really like our class.”
The Cowboys' rookies will be joined by veterans later this month as OTAs begin, but those leading the way in Big D will continue to look to the rookies for talent as they develop as training camp approaches. I hope he continues to perform well.
