SALISBURY, Maryland — Students from Salisbury University's Franklin P. Perdue School of Business recently competed in the 2024 Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge in Baltimore.
Tim Benson, a finance major, lives in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Jared Mozeleski of Glastonbury, Conn., and Carter Spicer of Salisbury participated in the annual competition, which provides students with networking opportunities, hands-on instruction, and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics.
Teams gained real-world experience by taking on the role of research analysts, while their analysis, evaluation, report writing and presentation skills were tested.
The SU team was accompanied by Dr. Ani Mathers, faculty mentor and associate professor of finance, and CFA industry mentor Liang Shan served as a resource throughout the report writing process. The judges included CFA credential holders from the local area.
Students presented their research on Ashland, Inc., an additive and specialty ingredients company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, focused on the global consumer market. Throughout the process, the team engaged with feedback from the company's investor team, presented their findings during the competition, and answered questions about their work.
