A search is underway for the suspect who shot and killed a 17-year-old girl in south Dallas Sunday morning.
The Dallas Police Department announced Monday afternoon that it is searching for Trevon Darnell Wright, 17, in connection with the murder of Ikea Imari Hood, 17.
A warrant has been issued for Wright's arrest on suspicion of murder, police said.
Around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Dallas police were called to a shooting in the 700 block of Grambling Drive. When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as Hood, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Mr. Hood later died from his injuries.
Dallas police have not released a motive for the shooting, and the investigation continues.
Hood was a student at Lancaster ISD. The school district announced Monday, Jan. 8, that it will provide counseling and grief services to students and staff at Lancaster High School upon their return from winter break.
“Lancaster ISD is deeply saddened by the tragic death of student Ikea Hood. Her death is a great loss to our district, and we extend our condolences to the students, staff, and staff affected by this tragedy. We will provide counseling and grief services to students,” the district said. in a statement Sunday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her entire family and the Lancaster High School community.”
