ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Texas Rangers have revised Josh Jean’s return timeline to account for the possibility that his recovery from surgery may take a little longer than expected.
Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that after speaking with Phoenix-based surgeon Dr. Don Sheridan following Jung’s surgery, the injury to the third baseman’s wrist was a little more severe than X-rays showed. Young said the Rangers are now proceeding with the surgery with an estimated recovery time of eight to 10 weeks, rather than the six weeks the Rangers had originally estimated.
“He had a good surgery and they were able to repair the damage,” Young said. “We expect him to make a full recovery, but we’re going to be more cautious with the timeline. Obviously, it wasn’t the best news, but he’ll still be back at some point this season.”
John was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday, one day after he was injured after swinging at a pitch from Phil Mutton. Young acknowledged that the Rangers’ next decision regarding John may be whether to move him to the 60-day disabled list, which would free up a spot on the 40-man roster and give the Rangers more freedom to make roster changes. However, at this time, the Rangers have no plans to move John to the 60-man roster.
