Like many teams around the league, the Cowboys sent a strong message in free agency. However, they did not add a large number of players or keep most of their own players. What is clear for the Cowboys is that they are willing to give opportunities to the young players on the team.
There are a number of players on this roster who are still on their rookie contracts but have yet to have a breakout season. Maybe this year too? There's only hope for the Cowboys, especially considering they only signed one player in free agency (Eric Kendricks) and only have six picks in the NFL Draft later this month.
Therefore, the Cowboys will have to rely on some past draft and free agent signings to fill out this roster.
Today we start our series with wide receiver Jalen Tolbert.
- name: jalen tolbert
- position: wide receiver
- experience: 3rd Year
- Games played/started: 25/7
- Remaining years of contract: 2
- Key statistics: Both of Tolbert's touchdowns in 2023 came against regional teams: Philadelphia and Washington.
past: Tolbert, a third-round pick in 2022, had little impact on the team during his rookie season. He was inactive for more than half of the regular season games and had just two catches for 12 yards. Tolbert took another leap forward last season, playing in all 17 games and starting seven games when the team went to three receivers. He began cutting into Michael Gallup's reps and was used as a key piece of the offense. Tolbert caught 22 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns, and was certainly trusted by Dak Prescott, who threw in his direction many times in key situations.
