Many areas in the Dallas-Fort Worth area could see a chance of rain Thursday afternoon, with the possibility of hail if storm activity increases, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said.
Jennifer Dunn, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, said rain is “likely” for the region, which includes Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties. Dunn added that small to quarter-sized hail is also possible.
“Probably the best time for hail storms will be mid to late afternoon,” Dunn said.
Dunn said the rain is expected to be “intermittent” across much of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and end around 7 p.m. The total precipitation reported at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport as of Wednesday was nearly 2 inches below normal for this month, she added.
“The vast majority of people will see at least some light rain,” Dunn said. “Up to a quarter inch of rain could fall in some areas. We're seeing this in parts of Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties.”
Dunn said the storm is not expected to cause any major changes in temperatures, and the weekend will be “dry and comfortable.”
