Baring its fangs in Athens, Georgia, the B-52 had a ton of eccentric charisma from day one. Known for their danceable bops and flashy costumes, the band's reputation only grew with songs like “Rock Lobster,” and they rose from quiet beginnings to become a major influence on pop and rock scenes around the world. became. 1989 single “Love Shack” cosmic thingtook them to the next level as they knew they would.

Pearson said that Cindy Wilson's wail at the end of “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” was “cut” from Ono's dolphin-like singing style. Notably, Ono and John Lennon were also inspired by this spirited group's efforts. “[Lennon] heard [‘Rock Lobster’] And he said to Yoko, “I've got to get my ax out, and I've got to start writing again.'' That was an inspiration for him,” she explains. “I can't believe it…it's amazing that a hero even knows about you.”
