Robots are about to take off in Dallas.
The 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship, which begins Thursday, will see more than 20,000 students from all 50 states and more than 60 countries compete in high-energy, timed competitions using custom-built robots.Sponsored by the Northrop Grumman Foundation and the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation. The event will be held from April 25th to May 3rd at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas.
This annual event brings together top VEX IQ Robotics Competition, VEX Robotics Competition, and VEX U teams from around the world to celebrate their achievements and compete in the 2023-2024 competition to be crowned champions. “It's a schedule. Competitors include elementary, middle school, high school, U.S. Army Junior ROTC, and college teams.

Local schools will participate in the competition
In addition to all the participating teams from around the world, school representatives will also be gathered in the venue's backyard.
Just two examples:
The team from Dallas ISD's Reinhardt Elementary School represents a small family event. The school's robotics program was founded by Peter Morrissey, a kindergarten teacher at the school, whose daughter Isbela, a bilingual third grader, is part of the team competing in this year's competition. Peter's wife is also the principal of Reinhardt University, so she couldn't be more proud.
New Vanguard High School in Mesquite will compete in the competition with four different teams, including an all-girls team made up of Hispanic and Black students, highlighting “the importance of representation and empowerment in STEM fields,” according to the competition. That's what it means. One of the members, Leila, is also a JROTC leader, the pageant noted, adding that currently only 2% of STEM-related jobs are held by Hispanic women and 1.8% by Black women. .
REC Foundation is based in Greenville
One of the contest's sponsors, the REC Foundation, is based in Greenville, northeast of Dallas. The foundation says it provides students with “valuable early years that develop not only the technical skills needed in the real world, but also creativity and teamwork,” as employers “increasingly seek graduates with STEM proficiency.” “We provide practical access to It's the problem-solving skills they need to flourish their careers and open up new paths. ”
timing of finals
The high school finals of the competition are scheduled for April 27 from 4 to 6 p.m., and the middle school, JROTC and college finals will be held April 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. The elementary school finals will be held on May 3rd from 2:30pm to 4:40pm.
