Heavy rain is possible in some areas and is expected to continue through Thursday before clearing mostly on Friday.
The heaviest rainfall and flooding potential is expected in the afternoon and evening, with some areas expected to get more than 4 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Areas along and north of Interstate 20 could experience severe storms.
“There may be another storm [Thursday]”The rain will continue through late morning and into the day before clearing out,” Juan Hernandez, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, said in an interview Wednesday afternoon.
Severe weather with thunderstorms is possible after 1 p.m., with temperatures reaching 87 degrees Fahrenheit. Highs are expected to rise once the rain passes, Hernandez said.
Flood watches remain in effect for much of North and Central Texas through Thursday night, with rainfall amounts expected to reach 1 to 3 inches. In Dallas County, a flood watch for areas along the Trinity River was extended through Friday morning, with minor flooding expected at low-water river crossings.
The weather service said there was a low chance of thunderstorms Friday and Saturday. Localized storms may develop and become severe. More localized storms are possible early next week.
The weekend is expected to be hot and humid, with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s F. According to NWS Fort Worth, the high humidity will make it feel even hotter, with afternoon heat indexes in the mid 90s F and a high of 105 F.
“If you’re planning on being outdoors over the holiday weekend, make sure you stay hydrated,” Hernandez said.
