(NEXSTAR) A small city just outside Dallas is now the fastest growing city in Texas, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Josephine, population 7,113, is seeing its population grow by 215% between July 2020 and July 2023, the highest growth rate of any other town or city in Texas during that time period.
Fourteen other Texas cities and towns also saw their populations grow by more than 60 percent over the past three years.
Major cities across Texas saw little population growth over the past three years, with Dallas seeing a slight decrease in population from 1,303,212 to 1,302,868, and Austin seeing a slight increase in population from 965,827 to 979,882.

Small communities seem to be becoming more appealing to Americans in recent years: According to a Gallup poll conducted in late 2020, 48% of American adults would prefer to live in a town or the countryside over a city or suburb if they could live anywhere. This is a marked change from 2018, when 39% wanted to live in a small town or the countryside.
Gallup noted that it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the change, but that the COVID-19 pandemic likely influenced Americans’ lifestyle preferences.
