Hawks star point guard Trae Young hasn't played in a game since February, and there aren't many updates on his status or when he will return.
On the latest episode of the From the Point podcast (in partnership with Bleacher Report), Young talked about the injury and teased a timetable for his return, which may not be that far away.
“I'm feeling better. I'm close to clenching my fist again. Then I can get on the court and handle the ball. If I wasn't a point guard who needed both hands to dribble. I could probably come back this week.”
Young was then asked when he would return to the court.
“I had another doctor's appointment next Monday. At that point in my rehab, I'm rehabbing with Mo every Monday to make sure my hands are right even faster. I hope I can, if I can get a hold of it.’ Get out of this cast, and then you can play. Hopefully next week. ”
The episode was released on Friday, and Young sounded optimistic about a potential return. The Hawks play their final two home games this week against the Heat and Hornets. Atlanta is currently 1.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
Atlanta has been on a limb ever since Young went down with an injury. They are 12-10 with some impressive wins, but inconsistent performance. Atlanta won two games at home against the Celtics, but looked like they really missed Young with losses to the Mavericks and Nuggets. Dejounte Murray has been very good, but Atlanta is missing Young's playmaking ability. It would be huge if he could return in time for the play-in tournament and help the Hawks make the playoffs.
Stay tuned this week for more updates on Young.
