With six full days of rest, the OKC Thunder got off to a slow start in Game 1 on Tuesday, shooting just 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from triples at halftime. However, coach Mark Daigneault's team made an astonishing 58 3-pointers in the second half, pulling away from Dallas with a final score of 117-95 and easily winning the first contest.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 29 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Chet Holmgred added 19 points, three blocks, and two steals, and Aaron Wiggins was very efficient off the bench with 16 points.
Meanwhile, “Mr. 4th Quarter” was played again.
Jaylen Williams was held to just eight points on 2-of-11 shooting through the third quarter. However, he scored 10 points in the fourth quarter without missing a shot. That barrage included three consecutive threes with about eight minutes left and Oklahoma City leading by his 15 points.
As a team, the Thunder forced 15 turnovers and surprisingly grabbed five more offensive rebounds than Dallas. Additionally, they got to the free throw line at will, routinely sending many Mavericks key role players into foul trouble.
