Final: 4 stars, 1 Avalanche
Dallas, the NHL's best road team during the regular season, won the first road content of the series to take a 2-1 series lead over Colorado. Game 4 will be played in Denver on Monday night at 8:30 p.m.
3rd period, 0:28 left: Logan Stankoven added another empty-netter who would be a great way to score two goals for the Stars on Saturday. The Avalanche won't be back this time.
3rd period, 1:37 left: Tyler Seguin with a dagger. His second goal of the game, an empty-netter with a minute and a half left, gave the Stars a two-point lead. Barring a Colorado miracle, Dallas will win Game 3 and take control of the series.
Third period, 3:30 left: The Stars were able to keep it away for the first 17 minutes of the third period. They hold a 2-1 lead with three minutes left to take the same 2-1 series lead.
3rd hour, 11:00 left: The Stars would hold a 2-1 lead through the first half of the final frame. Colorado has yet to hold the lead at any point in regulation through almost three games in this series. The Abs' Game 1 OT winner was the only time they had the lead.
End of second period: 2 Stars, 1 Avalanche
2nd period, 4:47 left: Tyler Seguin scored his second goal of the game, putting the Stars back in front.
In the second period, Dallas mounted a 3-on-2 rush to regain the lead.
2nd period, 9:08 left: Stars acquire Nathan MacKinnon. It's 1-1 in Denver.
The Avalanche star hit a nice weaving drive toward the net, giving Mikko Rantanen a huge chance to score the tying goal. McKinnon got the assist.
2nd hour, 12:30 remaining: The score remains 1-0. Both goaltenders exchanged highlight saves in the second period, but the Stars still had few shots on goal. They have just seven to Colorado's 16.
Dallas will have its first power play of the game when play resumes.
2nd hour, 18:00 remaining: The Stars started the second period with some penalty kill cleanup left over from the first period. Dallas shut down Colorado's power play for the third time tonight, keeping the score at 1-0.
1st end: 1 star, 0 avalanche
1st period, 1:21 left: The Stars strike first.
21-year-old Logan Stankoven scored the first playoff goal of his young career, giving the Stars a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Dallas takes the lead going into the break.
1st period, 4:00 left: Dallas killed their second penalty kick of the game, but they probably don't want to continue that trend. The Stars committed three penalties in the first period, but the first was negated by a Colorado penalty at the same time.
It wasn't without some close calls, with Jake Oettinger providing a little help near the Avis goal.
1st period, 9:50 left: The Stars and Avs are scoreless through the first half of the first period, but they continue at the same ferocious pace we saw in the first two games. But goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Alexander Georgiev have held up so far.
The Stars stopped their first power play of the game after a Mason Marchment penalty, but the biggest play on Colorado's man advantage came when Georgiev stopped Jamie Benn's shorthanded breakaway attempt. That's what happened.
The match remained 0-0.
