Happy opening day, Cardinals fans!
Yesterday was wonderful. And it was terrible. And that's what happens when your favorite team loses on opening day.
The good news is we have another match today. So the pain of defeat is tempered by early-season baseball's eternal optimism.
……
Are we optimistic?
I don't know if it's true or not. Personally, I was a little fed up with last season, so yesterday's starting pitcher's “as expected” performance didn't help. I talked this winter about the possibility that Mikolas' slump could continue this season due to good luck with his home run rate.the Method It's too early to say “I told you so.” Especially on the road against the Dodgers. But he would hate to see something he thought might happen happen in a one-game sample size.
This was one of the things VEB writers discussed last night when they met to make predictions for the 2024 season. We're building on the questions in my post from earlier this week and asking you to make your bold predictions by voting in the comments.
The podcast features some predictions for the best offensive plays, best defenders, and best pitchers. To make it interesting, we all had to choose different people. That naturally brings us into the realm of “bold predictions.” Don't let these predictions take us away. Except for the ones we judged correctly. we will do the same for you.
Next, we selected the Cardinals' final record and finish in the National League Central Division. I'll warn you in advance: it's not particularly pretty. It also helps that three of the reporters declined to name the Cubs on principle. I respect that. But he didn't obey.
It may sound like a downer episode, but it wasn't. It was lively and interesting and most of the pods were dial up so he was struggling with level internet so there was very little for me. But hey, now I finally have an excuse to update my router's firmware and add some preferred devices.
This time I only get audio as I am having problems with the internet as the host of the pod. No one wants to watch a choppy video for an hour.
