Walmart plans to open 150 stores in the United States over the next five years and is eyeing growth in new residential areas in Texas, the state's largest state.
Walmart said: dallas morning news Construction will begin Friday on four new stores: one each in Celina, Frisco and Melissa in North Texas, and one in Cypress, near Houston.
Serena and Melissa are opening their first Walmart store. Construction for all four stores will begin this spring or summer. These will be Walmart's first new local stores since 2018, when it opened in Frisco, Prosper and Fort Worth.
The Frisco site is across from FM 423 (Ge Road), a second HE-B store under construction in Frisco and scheduled to open later this year. Grocers are good at finding the best intersections along new roofs. When they build a new store in a market, the location is often across the street from a competitor or down the street.
Walmart and many retailers had paused expansion to focus on building e-commerce even before the pandemic, and now, at least in Dallas-Fort Worth, grocers and other retailers are opening new stores. is restarting. Kroger, Tom Thumb, Albertsons and Sprouts Farmers Market have opened or plan to open new stores this year and next.
The new store locations are:
- Preston Road and Celina in the northwest quadrant of the Collin County Outer Loop.
- Melissa is located at the southwest corner of McKinney Street and Legacy Ranch Drive
- Frisco, 16600 FM 423. This will be his fifth Walmart Supercenter in Frisco.
- Cypress at 8927 Fry Road. This is Walmart's second store in Cypress and also includes a Walmart Neighborhood Market.
Construction on the new Frisco store will begin with a groundbreaking ceremony tentatively scheduled for June 11, Walmart spokesman Charles Clawson said. “Our motivation for these new stores goes back to what we said in January.”
Walmart US CEO John Farner said in January that the company would resume construction on new stores while continuing to renovate stores. Walmart has remodeled more than 200 stores in Texas over the past two years, including more than 75 in North Texas. The company says more renovations are planned.
Walmart's store renovations added the features of a modern store concept, including improved layout and signage, technology upgrades, and expanded merchandise and assortments with more visual displays of mannequins and home decor. The new concept expands the health and wellness aisle and includes a larger pharmacy and vision center.
The Celina store will be home to the new Shawnee Trail Development by G-Man Development. This is a mixed-use development that includes other retail stores, restaurants, and urban housing.
Walmart is already working with city officials to obtain zoning approval and has told the city the store will include a micro-fulfillment center for online orders.
The retailer has built its next-generation supply chain in Florida, Washington, which is home to 156 Walmart and Sam's Club stores. Walmart is reinventing the way it stocks products in its stores and fulfills online orders, and D-FW is concentrating all functions of its newly transformed supply chain in one geographical location. This is the first market.
