Dallas Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb is in the final season of his rookie contract. And like head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott, nothing is promised beyond 2024.
The Cowboys certainly have a lot of decisions to make regarding contracts. Linebacker and edge rusher Micah Parsons is set to receive a big paycheck over the next few seasons. Prescott would need a big contract to remain in Dallas if owner and general manager Jerry Jones believes it's in the best interest of the team.
On Friday, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reported that there are recent signs that there have been no contract extension talks between the team and Lamb's agent.
“CeeDee Lamb's representatives have not had substantive discussions with the Cowboys about a new contract, a person familiar with the situation said,” the report said.
“People think it's not a big deal, but as we get closer to mandatory minicamp (June 4-6), you might start to worry,” Watkins continued. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Lamb didn’t come and participate in minicamp (like Zach Martin did last year).”
“No big deal”? That’s a subject of debate for a variety of reasons, among them that the longer Dallas waits, the more expensive the contract is likely to be. be. Is Vikings star Justin Jefferson's agent waiting for another player to set the market? Probably, I'm sure that everything is arranged much better than that, so think again.
why? Because, as we understand, both Lamb and Jefferson are represented by CAA. That said, the agency is likely running this show, and there's no “competing” here…with the agency itself, if not with the Cowboys or Vikings here… We will cooperate.
Since arriving in Dallas in the 2020 NFL Draft, Lamb has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times, was named first-team All-Pro, and was named second-team All-Pro. He finished third in the 2023 AP Offensive Player of the Year voting.
The former first-round pick has 395 catches for 5,145 yards and 32 touchdowns in his career. He is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $17.88 million…but CowboysSI.com reported that he will likely command $30 million in APY.
And like Prescott and Parsons, if Dallas doesn't pay Lamb…someone else will. And they'll probably pay him along with Jefferson – because CAA will say so.
