What he brings: Guyton brings some size, youth, potential, and greed to the O-line room. One thing that was clear in the first few days after being drafted is that Guyton is excited to be here with the Cowboys. Now, some might argue that if he's not capable of doing the job, it doesn't mean much. But some say yes, because if a player cares that much about being here and wanting to be great, he'll do whatever it takes to make that happen. Guyton had already had conversations with Tyler Smith and Zach Martin in the first 24 hours after being selected. He seems ready to jump into the mix right away, which is exactly what the Cowboys hope to do by taking him in the first round.
Where he plays: Unlike several other players taken in this year's draft, there's no real secret as to where Guyton is expected to play. He's been a left tackle forever. Now, the question is whether he can play right away. But typically when a player is drafted in the first round, the expectation is that he is ready now or will be ready soon. There are always exceptions, and the Cowboys had one last year with Madge Smith. However, Tyler Guyton is expected to jump right in at left tackle, keeping Tyler Smith at left guard, where he played last year. Guyton may have a learning curve considering he played right tackle (protecting the left-handed quarterback's blind side) at Oklahoma last year and will now move to the left side. But the first-round pick said over the weekend that he doesn't think it will be a difficult transition and that he fully expects to be at left tackle right away. Other candidates who could compete for the spot include veterans Chuma Edoga, Matt Waletzko and Asim Richards. But make no mistake: Guyton was drafted to start right away.
