The Dallas Cowboys lost running back Tony Pollard to Tennessee this offseason, leaving a big hole to fill on offense. Considering Pollard's move, Patrick Walker of dallascowboys.com thinks it's “very likely” the Cowboys draft a running back.
“The reality is…the organization has a job available to them in the 2024 NFL Draft,” Walker wrote. “That's especially true at the running back position. Just one season after the Cowboys parted ways with Ezekiel Elliott, we saw Tony Pollard leave in free agency for the Tennessee Titans. Sho.”
The Cowboys had interest from current Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, but missed out on signing him. Henry, who called the Cowboys a “perfect situation” after joining the Ravens, made this clear in an interview on The Jim Rome Show.
“For the record, Baltimore was always my top choice,” Henry told Rome. “That's always where I wanted to go…I know the Cowboys lost (Tony) Pollard, so I didn't know if they were looking for a running back. I was here in the offseason. “I just thought it made sense because they've been training here and lived here for a while and I thought there would be a discussion. But they… We didn’t really communicate.”
There are some talented players in the NFL Draft, and if the Cowboys are in the market for a running back, Texas product Jonathan Brooks could be a great investment. There may be cause for concern considering he tore his ACL last season, but there's no doubting his talent.
