Is Brian Walsh a cold-blooded murderer? Or the loving husband who rubbed himself and cried on the beach?
That's part of what the jury will have to decide when he goes on trial for the murder of his wife, Anna. This is also the question we explore in the latest episode of our podcast, The Search for Anna Walsh.
In this episode, we hear from some of the people who knew Brian best, including Anna Walsh herself. Previous trials have preserved documents such as affidavits and letters that provide insight into Brian Walsh's dealings, tendencies and personality.
Brian's testimony included in the lawsuit paints a starkly contrasting picture.
Take his art fraud scheme for example. You can hear more about this plan in episode 2 of the podcast. In her sentencing memo, Anna wrote to the federal judge about Brian: He was afraid of relationships and for years wouldn't let anyone get close to him, including me. ”
In the same case, Ron Rivlin, a Los Angeles-based art dealer who was a victim of Bryan's fraud, had a different view of Bryan, telling our sister station NBC Washington: , sympathy and empathy for myself and other victims. ”
Whether Brian had it in him to be physically violent is another question that elicits different answers depending on who you ask.
Dr. Fred Pescatone, a close friend of Brian's father, said of the murder suspect in an affidavit for Brian's father's estate: “Brian is not only a sociopath, but also a very angry and violent person.”
But Brian's friend and former tenant Mike Silva said he didn't believe Brian could harm anyone, saying: “Brian fell on the beach, got some small scrapes and was like a little baby.'' I cried. I don't think Brian is capable of that.” About hurting someone. ”
You can hear more from these and other accounts in Episode 3 of our new podcast, out now.
