I'd like to start by asking you a little bit about your early days. How did you discover your interest in fashion? What attracted you to the industry?
I've always been interested in fashion. I grew up playing in my mother's closet and jewelry box. I have always been interested in getting dressed and dressed for school.
It was probably during my sophomore year of college that I realized it could be a career. When I was 13 or 14 years old, I always worked in clothing stores. I didn't know there were other professions in the fashion world and you could get paid to dress people.
I had a lot of internships, worked at magazines, learned about editorial styling, learned how to dress and how that world works. Then I worked at a place called the Albright Fashion Library. It was a place where stylists would come and pull clothes for projects like commercials, music videos, editorials and celebrity styling. That's where I really learned what a stylist is. I was in a position other than being a stylist or a magazine editor.
I think Linda Rodin was probably the first. She was doing a commercial or campaign for Victoria's Secret, and she came in and I helped her pull her clothes out of the showroom. I remember she wanted this Hervé Leger dress that I actually personally owned. Albright wasn't having that. I remember she came to my apartment and her assistant borrowed it from me. I was really interested in going on set and understanding what it was like.
After that, I started working as an editorial stylist. Then I worked at trend More magazines at the event.
Until I came to LA, [where] In fact, the only aspect of styling present here was the celebrity. That's how I fell into it. That wasn't the goal from the beginning.
At the time, there wasn't that much fashion presence in LA, so I don't think there were any designers living here. There wasn't really a fashion house. People weren't doing fashion shows in L.A. It's just a different time than he was 12 or 13 years ago.
I think I thought this because I live here and my current husband is from here. “Okay, I’m going to stay here and figure out how to build a career in LA around styling. can be accessed.”
Your client Jennifer Lawrence is a regular on the Who What Wear home page. And I feel like she's seen an evolution towards a really sophisticated look and a leaning towards this trendy girl fashion. Can you tell us a little bit about when you teamed up to develop this vision?
I think she has as much to do with this issue as I do. We ended up working together. I'm a long-time friend of her husband. we are neighbors. In a way, it just happened naturally. Borrowing clothes from my closet and being friends is also a sincere thank you to her for educating each other about movies, for her educating me, and for me educating her about fashion. she is interested in it.
I think our communication and collaboration skills are what will make this project so much fun and hopefully successful. I think she has great taste and is very interested in learning about new designers and communicating different eras.
It really feels like a collaboration. I think when you understand how you communicate and feel really comfortable with someone, you usually get great results. It's really fun. Above all, the process is really fun.
Like I said, she has great taste, but she also has great taste in projects, art, and architecture. We speak the same language in a sense, an appreciation for beauty, learning, and evolving.
In addition to styling celebrity clients, I also styled it 7 for All Mankind S/S 24 Campaign.I know you started out working in editorial styling, but that's not your main focus, so what was it about this job that drew you to it? What else drew you to this campaign? Why did you agree? [for All Mankind] Is it LA's iconic denim?
I decided to join this campaign because I remember when I first got my 7. I remember 7s being a very iconic brand. It was probably the first expensive pair of denim I had saved up for.
I remember when I worked at Scoop in New York, everyone wanted one. Remember those pockets with squiggles? I was excited to work with this brand because I really appreciate it and feel nostalgic for it.
Sit down with your stylist and ask what trends and changes in style do you think will be relevant for this upcoming season this spring/summer?
Wide leg denim has always been popular, and I think it will continue to be popular in the future.
