So the big debate right now is Dak Prescott and how much he will sign. The question I have is this: What does Duck want more, the Super Bowl or more money than he will spend in a lifetime?Wouldn't it be better to cut back on him and get more help around him to get this team to the point where they can win a Super Bowl??– Jeffery Williams/Abilene, Texas*
Nick Eatman: The Ducks should want the Super Bowl more than anything. But that's not really a fair question. Most players would say that, or at least that's what they should say. But money is something else entirely. Sure, it would be easy to say the Dak are going to spend less money so they can sign more players. But is CeeDee doing that? Will Mika be the same? Could some of these free agents do the same thing from other teams and come here for less money because they want to win it all? You know that's not happening. So why should we duck? Because if it doesn't work out and they don't reach the goal again, most of the blame will be on Duck, right? So where does it pay off? Sorry, it's not his job to figure out the salary cap situation. Now it's his turn to pick up the bag and he deserves a fair one. He had a great season and put himself in a position to earn this contract. The Cowboys need to find a way to manipulate the cap around him to give him the pieces they need. But if the rest of the players aren't accepting hometown contracts, why should he?
patrick: With all due respect, I can't help but laugh at this angle of the argument. This is the conclusion I have preached endlessly over the years, and I repeat it again. The quarterback market pays a certain amount, and the salary cap “pie” is far more myth than reality. The bottom line is that while Prescott needs to improve on his playoff record, he was also the league MVP runner-up last season, and whether you like it or not, a QB of that caliber will always be on the market. (just ask Lamar Jackson). Understanding how the cap works (reductions, restructuring, salary reductions, new extensions that free up immediate cash, etc.) can help explain why NFL teams are setting a market on a QB while still gathering talent around him. That's the key to understanding what you can find (again, ask Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen). In my opinion, everyone shouldn't pay too much attention to what kind of awards Prescott is going to win, especially considering that Prescott will be kicked out of the top 10 within three years (which is why people should Here's a breakdown of what the Cowboys will and won't do to show they can pull off the same magic as other top prospects with big-contract QBs, such as ).
