Young the Giant frontman Sameer Ghadia has teamed up with SiriusXM to launch a new podcast, Point of Origin. The podcast is “dedicated to amplifying the voices of people of color around the world while challenging the homogeneous narrative in alternative and indie rock music.”
Former Alabama Shakes singer Brittany Howard will be the first guest on the podcast to discuss her latest solo studio effort, “What Now.”
Each episode of “Point of Origin,” available on the SiriusXM app, explores the lives and careers of musicians of color and includes a fully curated “Life Playlist” filled with guests’ favorite songs .
The podcast originates from Gadia's radio show of the same name, which aired on SiriusXM's Alt Nation. Previous episodes of the radio show have featured artists such as Beabadoobee, Dijon, Rostam, KennyHoopla, and Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
“In 2020, I created Point of Origin with the desire to challenge the homogeneous narrative of alternative music by amplifying the voices of people of color in alternative music's past, present, and future,” Gadia said in a statement. Gadia has written and performed modern alternative standards such as “My Body” and “Cough Syrup” with Young the Giant. She is a first generation Indian American; variety's 2022 Inclusion Impact Report, Gadia speaks out about her experiences navigating the world of alternative music and its homogeneous history.
