We primarily associate YouTube Music with music. However, the company is strengthening its podcasting business. In a new update, YouTube Music announced some new changes that will further improve the ease of listening to podcasts on the platform.
Over the past few months, YouTube Music has been working to become the number one source for podcasts. Currently, iTunes and Spotify are the two largest podcasting platforms on the web. So it's no surprise that YouTube is stepping up its podcast game. Recently, YouTube Music launched the ability to trim silence from podcasts.
If you don't know, you can easily access podcasts from the platform. If you're using the YouTube Music app, go to your home screen and tap podcast Chip at the top of the screen.
YouTube Music has made three new changes to improve your podcast listening experience
The first new update changes the way you sort podcasts in your library. You can now sort your podcast episodes by popularity, default, newest to oldest, and oldest to newest. By default, podcast episodes appear in the order chosen by the creator.
The second change, which was already available to users in the US, is now finally available to users outside the US.User will see new Recommended programs Home screen shelf. YouTube Music curates podcast shows based on your listening habits to help you find your next favorite show.
The third new change isn't all that flashy. Apparently, YouTube has improved its algorithm to give users better search results. Search results may be more relevant to what you're looking for.
This isn't the biggest announcement or massive update. However, it's still nice to know that YouTube Music is working on being a better platform for listening to podcasts. At the moment, it lags far behind Spotify and iTunes. So the company has a lot of work to do to catch up.
